Public Information Officer

About the role

The Independent Institution on Missing Persons in the Syrian Arab Republic (IIMP) seeks a Public Information Officer to support media relations, develop communication strategies and manage social media activities. The position is based in Geneva with possible relocation to Damascus or other sites.

Key responsibilities

• Organise media interviews, prepare talking points and devise communication plans for high‑level missions.
• Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of the Institution’s social‑media strategy.
• Design and produce information products such as press kits, releases, feature articles, brochures and audio‑visual materials.
• Monitor current events, public opinion and press coverage, advising management on appropriate responses.
• Maintain professional relationships with key constituencies and act as focal point on specific issues.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or a related field.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism or related areas.
• Experience managing social‑media accounts for a large global organisation.
• Fluency in English and Arabic at UN Level III.
