Publications Digitization and Records Management Intern

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking an intern to support the Chemicals and Health Branch in digitising its physical publication collection. The role involves verifying existing assets, creating an inventory, and converting selected documents into a searchable digital repository.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct a physical verification and inventory of publications, recording title, year, location and digitisation status in an Excel spreadsheet.
• Classify and cross‑check each item against UNEP’s online repository to identify gaps.
• Prepare, scan and apply OCR to priority publications, ensuring readability and completeness.
• Apply UNEP metadata and naming conventions, perform quality‑assurance checks, and upload files to the Branch’s SharePoint site.
• Maintain tracking records of the digitisation process and support integration into the Knowledge Repository.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recently completed a bachelor’s, master’s or Ph.D. programme; fields of study related to records management, library science, information technology or environmental studies are preferred.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; knowledge of French is an advantage.
