R&D Design Engineer – Insulation and Components

About the role

Hitachi Energy is looking for a Design Engineer to join the Global Product Care team for Insulation and Components within the Transformers Business Unit. You will develop mechanical simulation models and support the design of high‑voltage transformer components.

Key responsibilities

• Establish mechanical simulation models for bushings, tap‑changers and measurement devices, including static/dynamic, seismic, short‑circuit impact and thermal‑structure coupling analyses.
• Conduct mechanical performance verification according to IEC, IEEE, GB and other standards, produce simulation reports and provide technical support for R&D, type testing and mass production.
• Develop internal tools for mechanical evaluation, participate in technical exchanges and support factories in troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with supply‑chain to ensure manufacturability, cost‑effectiveness and appropriate material selection.
• Lead or contribute to project teams, mentor junior colleagues and act as a subject‑matter expert.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of R&D or engineering experience, preferably with high‑voltage equipment or components.
• Strong knowledge of IEC/IEEE/ISO/ASTM standards and solid mechanical engineering principles.
• Excellent written and spoken English and ability to work with global technical teams.

• Finite element analysis (FEA).
