R&D Engineer (80-100%)

About the role

As an R&D Engineer at ABB you will drive the life‑cycle management of critical power equipment, from concept to production. You will work in a hybrid model within the Critical Power Agile Unit in Quartino, Switzerland, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑quality mechanical designs.

Key responsibilities

• Develop mechanical design requirements for new or enhanced critical power equipment.
• Create, test, and document designs, ensuring coordination with other technical teams.
• Produce and release mechanical prototypes, support their fabrication, and lead improvement processes.
• Participate in design reviews, provide feedback, and modify designs as needed.
• Convert conceptual designs into detailed engineering documentation and maintain existing product data.
• Collaborate with production, supply chain, service, and other business areas to meet overall product requirements.

Required profile

• University degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
• Strong written and spoken English communication skills.

Required skills

• Solid‑modeling CAD software (e.g., Creo).
• Sheet‑metal design, detail part and assembly drawings, and design‑for‑manufacturing.
• Experience with structural simulation and PLM tools (a plus).
• Knowledge of electrical safety standards such as UL/IEC (a plus).
