Research Consultant – Economic and Fiscal Policy

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Research Consultant to provide analytical, research and coordination support for the implementation of the Sustainable Business Approach (SBA) in Guatemala. The consultant will work remotely, supporting the international lead consultant and contributing to national capacity‑building efforts.

Key responsibilities

• Map and organise data sources related to SBA implementation.
• Provide analytical support for processing and documenting SBA‑related data.
• Assist with logistical and technical preparation of SBA training sessions and technical meetings with government counterparts.
• Prepare background notes and technical inputs for ongoing engagement with the Guatemalan Government.
• Support the preparation of the PAGE South‑South exchange event.
• Contribute technical inputs to the SBA Final Technical Contribution Package, including documentation of tool application, consolidation of training and stakeholder engagement analysis, and evaluation of implementation outcomes.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in economics, public policy, environmental studies or a related field.
• Experience in economic and fiscal policy analysis, preferably in an international development context.
• Familiarity with UN processes and multi‑agency collaboration.
• Strong analytical, research and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and remotely for a four‑month period.
