Research Engineer

About the role

The Learning Algorithms and Systems Laboratory (LASA) at EPFL seeks a Research Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team developing robot learning algorithms. You will work closely with researchers to create software that enables robots to acquire human‑like dexterity and adapt to dynamic environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain software frameworks for robot manipulation control and machine‑learning applications.
• Collaborate with research teams to integrate algorithms into experimental setups.
• Implement sensor interfacing and contribute to experimental design as needed.
• Promote best software practices, including code reviews, version control, and continuous integration.

Required profile

• Completed Master’s or PhD in Robotics, Machine Learning, or a related technical field.
• Strong programming skills in Python; C++ experience is advantageous.
• Solid understanding of robotic control and machine‑learning techniques.
• Experience with Linux and ROS/ROS2 frameworks.
• Familiarity with modern development workflows (Git, Docker).
• Fluent in English; French is a plus.
• Valid Swiss or EU/EFTA work permit.
