Rotating Equipment Start-up Engineer

About the role

The Operation Readiness Start‑Up (ORSU) Specialist for Rotating Equipment ensures that all rotating machinery on FPSO projects – compressors, pumps, gas turbines, generators, fans and blowers – are fully prepared, validated and safely transitioned from construction to commissioning and start‑up. You will act as the internal client for technical acceptance of the rotating scope and work closely with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Follow‑up mechanical completion, commissioning and start‑up execution for all rotating packages.
• Own compressor control systems including antisurge, load sharing, recycle logic, surge maps, trip management, sequence logic and vibration protection.
• Review and validate control narratives, cause‑and‑effect tables, trip matrices, start‑up/shut‑down sequences and machine‑protection logic.
• Coordinate with ICSS, instrumentation, electrical, process and vendors to ensure integrated start‑up of GTGs, VRUs, gas compression, seawater injection, chemical injection and other rotating equipment.
• Troubleshoot dynamic start‑up issues such as surge events, trip cascades, control instability, mechanical failures and vendor software inconsistencies.
• Support the Start‑Up Manager in system acceptance, checklist completion, test reporting, punch‑list closure and readiness for hydrocarbon introduction.
• Capture root‑cause analyses, lessons learned and vendor insights for continuous improvement.

• Machine protection and dynamic tuning
• ICSS integration and coordination with instrumentation, electrical and process disciplines
• Experience with gas turbine generators (GTG), vapor recovery units (VRU), gas compression, seawater injection and chemical injection systems
• Troubleshooting of dynamic start‑up issues and vendor software inconsistencies
• Root‑cause analysis (RCA) and lessons‑learned documentation
