Safety Engineer for CMS Experiment

About the role

As part of the Technical Coordination team for the CMS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), you will join the Safety Team and become familiar with CERN and CMS safety systems, hazard identification and risk assessment processes, as well as CMS infrastructure and computing tools. You will support the CMS LEXGLIMOS and help implement CERN's safety objectives within CMS.

Key responsibilities

• Support the CMS Large Experiment Group Leader in Safety (LEXGLIMOS) and coordinate safety priorities and timelines.
• Draft and review risk assessments, procedures and update the Safety File, especially for the LS3 CMS upgrade.
• Manage fire‑safety compliance of materials for the Phase II Upgrade and conduct follow‑up risk assessments.
• Perform incident analyses and ensure implementation of corrective safety actions.
• Support emergency preparedness, including planning and organising evacuations.

Required profile

• Basic engineering experience (safety, industrial, mechanical or related) with exposure to laboratory or technical environments.
• Initial experience in risk assessment, hazard identification, fire safety and related safety measures through academic projects or internships.
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively in English or French.
