Senior Backend Engineer (Backend Platform Team)

About the role

Frontify is the brand platform used by companies such as Microsoft, Telefónica, Bosch, Mercedes-Benz and Kia. Its Backend Platform Team is building a backend platform that is invisible when it works and invaluable when it is needed, with reusable libraries, SDKs, APIs, shared components and developer tooling. As a Senior Backend Engineer you will improve the PHP ecosystem, strengthen CI/CD practices and shape the tools and processes that let product teams build software autonomously. The role is remote from anywhere in Switzerland, with the option to spend time in the St. Gallen office.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain reusable backend libraries, SDKs, APIs and shared services for product teams.
• Improve the developer experience through clear abstractions, documentation, tooling and self-service solutions.
• Strengthen CI/CD workflows, automated testing, build processes and release practices.
• Ensure platform capabilities are reliable, secure, performant and easy to maintain.
• Collaborate with product teams on recurring challenges and partner with infrastructure teams on containers and Kubernetes, without owning the underlying infrastructure.
• Take ownership of technical initiatives, contribute to architectural decisions and mentor fellow engineers.

Required profile

• Strong experience in backend web application development; PHP is preferred as the primary language.
• Hands-on experience building reusable libraries, SDKs, APIs, frameworks or internal developer tools.
• Understanding of software architecture, API design, automated testing and backward compatibility.
• Working knowledge of containers and Kubernetes.
• Autonomous, ownership-driven and collaborative, with a willingness to mentor others.
