Senior Buyer

About the role

Mercury, the European leader in construction solutions, is seeking a Senior Buyer to join its procurement team in Zurich. The role will manage end‑to‑end purchasing activities for complex engineering and construction projects, ensuring timely delivery and quality of goods and services.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the procure‑to‑pay process from sourcing to invoice clearance.
• Develop procurement project execution plans and strategies for core commodities.
• Mentor and potentially lead junior procurement staff.
• Conduct site visits and collaborate with project, planning and logistics teams to create procurement schedules.
• Negotiate vendor alliances, rebate agreements and master service agreements.
• Purchase equipment, materials and services for assigned projects and ensure quality and timely delivery.
• Support proposal development and assist with reallocation or disposal of excess materials.
• Coordinate logistics of goods and services and produce internal and external reports.
• Conduct complex bid processes, commercial evaluations and identify new supplier sources.
• Ensure strict adherence to the Authority Matrix and follow general supervision guidelines.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years of experience in a similar procurement role.
• Strong negotiation skills and ability to prioritize workload efficiently.
• Previous experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining performance under pressure.
• Third‑level qualification in supply chain or a related discipline is desirable.
