Senior Director, Retention Marketing

About the role

Senior Director, Retention Marketing at Nerdy will own the end‑to‑end strategy for engaging current and former customers, from activation through renewal and win‑back. This high‑impact individual contributor role builds and executes email, SMS, push, and web‑based retention programs without direct reports.

Key responsibilities

• Design and run retention marketing programs across onboarding, engagement, renewal, win‑back, upsell, cross‑sell and referrals.
• Research customer behavior, identify friction points, and translate insights into targeted communications and journeys.
• Create and launch AI‑assisted email, SMS, push, landing pages and automated journeys.
• Run continuous experiments on messaging, offers and timing, measuring incremental impact.
• Define data and reporting needs, work with data teams to ensure usable signals.
• Partner with Product, Sales and Customer Service to align experiences and offers.

Required profile

• Proven track record building and scaling subscription retention programs that improve retention, reactivation and LTV.
• Deep understanding of activation, adoption, engagement, renewal and win‑back mechanics.
• Top‑tier AI‑native marketer who uses generative AI daily across research, copy, creative, landing pages and automation.
• Strong quantitative fluency and ability to define segments, metrics and experiment measurement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with ability to influence without direct authority.

Required skills

• AI‑native builder tools: Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Vercel, Netlify, Supabase.
• Copywriting and conversion rate optimization.
• Email, SMS and push notification campaign execution.
• Data analysis and reporting.
