Senior Drilling Engineer

About the role

IOTA GROUP, an international engineering and technical services company, is recruiting on behalf of a Swiss energy client a Senior Drilling Engineer to join its technical team in Geneva. The role acts as Technical Authority for Drilling, covering the whole well lifecycle from design to completion and abandonment, and supports international projects, corporate drilling standards and operational performance. It is a permanent position with a resident schedule of 5 days per week.

Key responsibilities

• Well engineering and design: lead well design from Basis of Design to completion, P&A and workovers, and review casing, cementing, trajectory, drilling fluids and completion designs
• Drilling planning, tendering and cost management: prepare drilling programmes, cost estimates, operational schedules and business cases, and lead rig selection, contractor evaluation and tendering
• Operations and risk management: supervise drilling operations remotely and on site, identify risks such as well control, HSE, induced seismicity, aquifer protection, lost circulation and pore pressure, and ensure compliance
• Digital transformation: contribute to AI and data-driven drilling solutions, digital well planning, real-time monitoring and performance analytics
• Standards and expertise: develop corporate drilling standards and Well Operations Management Plans, prepare permit documentation, support external consulting and audit assignments, mentor junior engineers and share lessons learned

Required profile

• Degree in Petroleum, Drilling, Mechanical or related engineering
• Minimum 15 years of drilling engineering experience, mainly in Oil & Gas
• Proven experience in carbonate reservoirs and fractured formations, including lost circulation and wellbore stability
• Solid international drilling experience and significant onshore experience; offshore experience is an advantage
• Fluent English; French and/or German is an advantage
• IWCF or IADC Well Control certification

Required skills

• Well design, drilling programmes, casing, cementing, drilling fluids and well integrity
• Tendering, technical contract evaluation and drilling contractor management
• Deep wells, HPHT, hard-rock drilling or MPD experience is highly valued; geothermal, hydrogen or helium drilling is an advantage
• Familiarity with digital drilling technologies and data analytics is beneficial
