Senior Lead Engineer

About the role

ABB is seeking a Senior Lead Engineer to act as the technical lead for engineering activities within Mining & Materials Plant Automation projects. The role is hybrid and supports commissioning and start‑up activities while ensuring efficient, cost‑effective delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Act as design authority for engineering deliverables and technical solutions for internal teams, customers and authorities.
• Lead, supervise and coordinate all engineering disciplines (in‑house and outsourced) on medium to high‑complexity projects.
• Collaborate with customers to shape solutions, gather feedback and drive improvements.
• Assist project managers with scope control, risk and opportunity assessments, and implement mitigation actions.
• Support project installation, commissioning and site activities, providing solutions to engineering issues.
• Provide technical details, cost calculations and deliverable definitions for sales proposals.

Required profile

• 8‑10 years of experience in large‑scale process automation engineering and commissioning.
• At least 2 years in a lead engineer role managing teams of 5‑10 engineers.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills in English.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering, industrial automation or a related technical field.

Required skills

• ABB 800xA or comparable DCS platforms.
• IEC 61850, TCP/IP networks, Profibus/Net, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC.
• Cybersecurity practices per IEC 62443 framework.
• Power and energy management systems design (software and hardware).
• Knowledge of relevant engineering codes and standards.
