Senior Mechanical Engineer (Battery Systems)

About the role

ABB is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its battery development team in Untersiggenthal, Switzerland, within the Motion Traction Energy Storage Solutions (ESS) product line. The role reports to the R&D Team Lead - Mechanical Development and works in a multidisciplinary environment with experts in battery technology, thermal management, materials, manufacturing, testing and system engineering. The work model is hybrid.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical development activities for battery systems and related components throughout the product lifecycle.
• Own technical work packages from concept development through validation and industrialization.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including electrical, systems, manufacturing, quality, supply chain and product management.
• Drive technical improvements, support innovation initiatives and contribute to the development of future product platforms.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Solid experience designing and developing complex mechanical products and assemblies.
• Proven experience working with customers, suppliers and international project teams.
• Fluent communication skills in both German and English.
• Experience in battery systems or energy storage solutions is an advantage but not required.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of manufacturing technologies such as sheet metal forming, extrusion and injection molding.
• Extensive experience with 3D CAD and PLM/PDM systems, ideally PTC Creo and Windchill.
• Understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including structural design, material selection and design for manufacturing.
