Senior R&D Engineer

About the role

We are developing a new generation of endoscopes to make minimally invasive procedures safer, faster, and more precise. As an EPFL spin‑off medical‑device startup preparing its first products for regulatory approval, we need a senior R&D engineer to lead the mechanical design and integration of the endoscope system.

Key responsibilities

• Design, prototype and iterate single‑use endoscope subsystems, including distal tip, steering mechanism, shaft and working channel.
• Integrate camera and LED modules, optimise image quality and illumination at the distal tip.
• Design and characterise irrigation and suction performance, run flow calculations and bench tests.
• Build test rigs and conduct mechanical and functional verification tests (deflection, torque, stiffness, fatigue, flow, leak).
• Collaborate with contract manufacturers and suppliers on part design, sourcing and assembly processes.

Required profile

• MSc or PhD in mechanical, micro‑ or biomedical engineering.
• 4+ years of hands‑on experience in medical‑device or precision mechanical product development.
• Strong mechanical design skills, including CAD, tolerancing, material selection and rapid prototyping.
• Solid understanding of mechanisms, kinematics and fluid‑mechanics for small‑lumens flow.
• Fluent English (C1 level) and ability to work in a fast‑paced startup environment.
