Senior Researcher – Economics of Nature Valuation & Stewardship

About the role

We are seeking a senior researcher to lead rigorous, implementation‑relevant studies on the economics of nature valuation and stewardship. The position will support the Wyss Academy’s Regional Stewardship Hubs by generating evidence that informs the design, assessment and adaptation of innovative mechanisms to recognise and reward nature stewardship.

Key responsibilities

• Produce actionable research on systemic, context‑sensitive approaches that go beyond conventional Payments for Ecosystem Services.
• Develop and empirically test alternative incentive structures that promote just and sustainable human‑nature relations.
• Collaborate closely with hub teams in East Africa, South America, Southeast Asia and Europe to identify emerging research needs.
• Publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present results to policymakers, businesses and community partners.
• Contribute to the Academy’s broader research agenda on economic institutions and transformation pathways.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent in economics, environmental economics, natural resource economics or a closely related discipline.
• Strong track record of independent research on nature valuation, incentive mechanisms or related topics.
• Experience working in interdisciplinary, multi‑regional projects and engaging with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to translate complex economic analysis into practical recommendations for conservation practice.
