Senior System Architect – ML & AI

About the role

As a Senior System Architect in the ML & AI ART at Julius Baer, you will define and align end‑to‑end system architecture for enterprise AI and machine‑learning solutions. You will ensure that the architecture delivers scalable, secure, and reusable AI capabilities while supporting high‑quality delivery across multiple teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design and own solution architectures for AI platform components and related applications.
• Ensure architectures comply with standards and align with domain target architectures.
• Document architecture decisions as ADRs and obtain board approvals.
• Coach software engineers on implementation feasibility and technical best practices.
• Drive hands‑on design for AI/ML solutions, balancing consistency with delivery needs.
• Identify and mitigate architectural risks, dependencies, and technical debt.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years as a Senior Architect in complex IT environments.
• At least 5 years of hands‑on experience as a Lead or Senior Software Engineer with AI/ML solutions.
• Proven ability to translate enterprise‑level target architectures into practical team‑level designs.
• Strong communication skills to explain architectural concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Experience working across multiple teams while maintaining architectural alignment.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a comparable field.

Required skills

• AI/ML platforms and ecosystems (MLOps, model lifecycle, data pipelines).
• Event‑driven architecture, microservices and modular monolith patterns.
• Distributed systems, APIs and platform integration patterns.
• CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Agile and SAFe delivery frameworks.
• Cloud platforms and related certifications (e.g., SAFe, cloud, AI/ML).
