Senior Trade Accountant

About the role

The Sahara Group is seeking a Senior Trade Accountant to join its Accounting & Controlling Department in Geneva. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will operate in a trading and shipping environment, ensuring accurate IFRS‑compliant accounting and financial reporting for commodity trades.

Key responsibilities

• Control and account for the financial impact of paper trades.
• Prepare detailed voyage‑by‑voyage P&L analysis, incorporating all primary and secondary costs.
• Analyse and monitor overhead expenses and identify missing information for timely correction.
• Reconcile balance‑sheet accounts, including receivables, payables, banks and inter‑company balances.
• Align Accounting P&L with Trading P&L, investigate discrepancies and ensure data integrity.
• Produce monthly and quarterly management accounts and manage the year‑end audit process through to sign‑off.
• Promote strong internal controls and compliance with IFRS and internal policies.
• Partner with cross‑functional teams to resolve accounting issues and support ad‑hoc analyses.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent professional qualification (e.g., ACCA).
• 6‑8 years of experience in a commodity trading environment, preferably oil, trading or shipping.
• Prior audit experience is an advantage.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
