Software Engineer – Large-Scale Data Processing Platforms

About the role

As a Software Engineer focusing on Large-Scale Data Processing Platforms, you will join a highly skilled engineering team that builds and maintains backend systems handling massive real‑time and batch data flows. You will work across the full software development lifecycle to deliver scalable, resilient, and high‑performance solutions for a globally distributed environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain high‑performance backend applications for large‑scale data processing environments.
• Participate in the complete software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design through implementation, testing, deployment and maintenance.
• Develop robust, reusable and well‑tested software using object‑oriented programming principles.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define technical requirements and deliver scalable solutions.
• Implement automated testing and quality‑assurance practices to ensure software reliability.
• Support troubleshooting, debugging and performance‑optimization activities.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of software architecture, coding standards and development processes.
• Participate in code reviews and knowledge‑sharing initiatives within the engineering team.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering or related field, or completed vocational education in software development.
• 2–6 years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Java and object‑oriented software engineering principles.
• Experience developing enterprise‑grade backend services and scalable applications.
• Practical experience with testing frameworks such as JUnit or similar automated testing solutions.
• Good understanding of software design patterns, clean‑code principles and performance optimisation.
• Strong knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases; MongoDB experience is a plus.
• Exposure to Spring Boot is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with Apache Kafka, Apache Flink or other event‑driven and stream‑processing technologies is beneficial.
• Experience with large‑scale data processing, distributed systems or Big Data environments is a plus.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken; Swiss or EU/EFTA citizenship or valid Swiss work permit.
