Staff Software Engineer

About the role

SurePoint Technologies is looking for an experienced Staff Software Engineer to lead technical initiatives for its next‑generation legal‑tech platform. This individual contributor role requires solving complex, ambiguous problems while shaping architecture and mentoring peers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of cross‑team initiatives that impact platform scalability, reliability and performance.
• Set technical direction, establish engineering standards, and conduct architecture reviews.
• Partner with product and engineering leadership to translate business goals into technical strategy.
• Drive adoption of AI‑assisted development practices and evaluate new tools to improve productivity.
• Write and review production‑quality code, participate in incident response and root‑cause analysis.
• Identify and mitigate systemic technical risks related to scalability, performance and security.
• Mentor and coach engineers to raise technical capability across the organization.

Required profile

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong leadership impact.
• Proven ability to design high‑performance, highly available web applications and distributed systems.
• Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions without direct authority.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Required skills

• Ruby on Rails
• Modern JavaScript framework (e.g., Ember.js)
• AI development tools such as Claude Code and GitHub Copilot
• Cloud platforms: AWS, GCP, Heroku
• CI/CD pipelines and security best practices
• Observability tooling: OpenTelemetry, Honeycomb, Datadog
