Superconducting RF Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Join CERN’s Superconducting Radiofrequency (SRF) team to design next‑generation cryomodules for future particle accelerators such as the FCC‑ee. You will work in a multidisciplinary environment developing advanced cryogenic and RF systems at the forefront of accelerator technology.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in, and eventually lead, the design and integration of SRF cavities, cryomodules and associated tooling, both in clean‑room and outside environments.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams at CERN and partner laboratories on cryogenic engineering activities, including thermal performance and safety.
• Ensure mechanical designs comply with safety and regulatory requirements, especially for pressure vessels.
• Coordinate design, prototyping and testing activities with engineering and technical teams.
• Monitor project progress and communicate results through reports and presentations.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience designing cryogenic mechanical systems and performing heat‑transfer and structural analysis.
• Familiarity with pressure‑vessel design standards and clean‑room assembly requirements.
• Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical results.
• Fluent spoken and written English with a willingness to learn French.

Required skills

• CAD tools such as CATIA, Inventor or SolidWorks.
• Finite‑element analysis (FEA) software.
• Cryogenic system design and thermal‑insulation techniques.
• Pressure‑vessel design and safety standards.
• Clean‑room assembly processes.
• Knowledge of RF techniques applied to accelerator components.
