Survey Engineer – Geodetic Metrology

About the role

As a Survey Engineer you will join CERN's Geodetic Metrology group, contributing to the metrology and alignment of components used in the particle accelerators. You will work on the SPS North Area Consolidation and TCC2 renovation projects, ensuring sub‑millimetre accuracy for new beamlines.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in coordination meetings, review schedules and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
• Prepare and verify inputs such as theoretical beamline trajectories, installation drawings and component geometry.
• Carry out and supervise geometrical measurements from assembly to on‑site installation using laser tracker and other 3D geodetic techniques.
• Coordinate survey activities, including network measurements, installation tasks and alignment processes.
• Process data with 3D least‑squares adjustment software, perform stochastic analysis, and produce technical documentation.
• Define strategies for tracing new beamlines and services.
• Contribute to R&D on alignment monitoring systems and maintain in‑house surveying software.
• Supervise external contractors, students and team members.

Required profile

• Experience in high‑precision geodetic or industrial metrology.
• Knowledge of high‑accuracy survey methods and tools.
• Familiarity with adjustment theory and least‑squares algorithms.
• Ability to organise, plan and control survey work, including supervision.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
