Teaching and Research Assistant (Architecture Behaviorology)

About the role

The Chair of Architectural Behaviorology at ETH Zurich's Department of Architecture is looking for three Teaching and Research Assistants (40% time each) to join its team. The positions start in January or August 2027 and are fixed-term contracts of one year, renewable annually for up to six years. The chair studies architectural form through the behaviour of climate and materials, of humans and non-humans, and of typologies, and teaches a second-year Design Studio.

Key responsibilities

• Teaching assistant: prepare materials and documents for the design studio, support students in developing their projects, evaluate and grade them, and hold short input lectures and workshops; studio days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
• Research assistant: carry out research on projects such as Window Behaviorology, Urban-Rural Commons, Housing in Switzerland and Architecture for Care, organise workshops and seminar weeks, help edit and publish books and arrange exhibitions.

Required profile

• Master's degree in architecture.
• Good knowledge of English and (Swiss) German; the studios and research are mostly in English, German is needed for local collaborators.
• Solid knowledge of the Swiss architectural landscape, including construction, detailing and common regulations.
• Good understanding of architectural design practice and of the Swiss socio-economic, cultural, historical and political context.
• Residence in Switzerland, ideally in the Zurich area.
• Ideal but not required: 2-3 years of professional experience, including work on execution plans, and knowledge of French or Italian.
