Tech Lead - Application Responsible (Java)

About the role

Julius Baer is hiring an Application Responsible (Tech Lead) for its Software Engineering team, part of PTFL, in the Wealth Management domain. The role leads the analysis and resolution of complex legacy system defects using deep Java expertise, acts as a technical influencer between engineering and non-technical stakeholders, and champions best practices in software development, regulatory compliance and secure, high-performance system design.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse and fix very complex legacy defects that other developers cannot solve
• Communicate highly technical issues clearly to non-technical audiences
• Influence and improve the engineering practices of existing developers
• Develop and deliver with Java, EJB, Spring Boot, MySQL and IBM MQ, turning business and system requirements into scalable, stable solutions
• Ensure adherence to bank standards for code, security and performance
• Work on Wealth Management systems such as CRM, client on-boarding, KYC, AML, Name Check, Documentum, Captiva, GMC and Liferay Portal
• Design, code and implement complex custom applications, investigate and resolve production issues, and stay calm in crises
• Manage internal and external stakeholders (finance, business change engineers, project managers): analyse requirements, estimate effort, plan timelines, track progress and keep stakeholders informed
• Drive and review technical and architectural designs, enforce architectural guidelines and challenge the status quo
• Act with integrity, due care, fair dealing, conflict-of-interest management and compliance with applicable laws and regulations

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of development experience in Core Java and Java EE
• Minimum 3 years in the financial domain; banking experience preferred
• Minimum 2 years of TDD practice
• Experience in Agile (Scrum) and/or XP, and best practices such as TDD and CI
• Well organised, able to prioritise multiple tasks and influence projects to meet milestones
• Able to work independently and in a team, with good communication and problem-solving skills

Required skills

• Core Java 8+, JUnit, Maven, basic Linux shell scripting
• Java messaging concepts (JMS, MQ) and relational databases (SQL, joins, indexes, triggers)
• Web services (REST, SOAP) and Spring core concepts
• SQL query optimisation; IntelliJ, Git, SonarQube/SonarLint
• Desirable: JBoss or other application servers, Spring Boot, JSF, JPA, EJB, React or Angular
