Translational Medicine Expert – Gastroenterology, Associate Director

About the role

Novartis is seeking a Translational Medicine Expert in Gastroenterology to lead early‑phase clinical programs and drive innovative science from discovery to patient impact. The role is based in Basel and operates in a hybrid work model.

Key responsibilities

• Lead global clinical trial teams through Phase 1 and Phase 2 development, acting as medical lead for early studies.
• Draft early clinical development plans and represent the team on decision boards.
• Serve as primary contact for internal and external key opinion leaders and oversee publication of study results.
• Collaborate with biomarker experts, research scientists, and chemistry/biology colleagues to shape pre‑clinical and clinical strategies.
• Participate actively in health authority interactions.

Required profile

• Medical doctor with board certification in gastroenterology or a related specialty.
• Several years of clinical experience treating inflammatory bowel disease (UC and CD) patients.
• Ability to work independently, learn quickly, and lead multidisciplinary teams in a matrix organization.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
