AI Platform Engineer

About the role

Axpo is building a governed AI foundation, providing controlled access to models, tools, and a secure platform for AI‑assisted applications. As an AI Platform Engineer you will design, develop, and operate the core services that enable safe, scalable AI usage across the company.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and operate platform services for LLM routing, model access, tool registration, identity & permissions, rate limits, budgeting, tracing and auditability.
• Build deployment pipelines from code repository to SSO‑protected applications, handling secrets, safe defaults and admin capabilities for non‑technical users.
• Engineer secure execution environments with isolated runtimes, code analysis, vulnerability checks, restricted egress and least‑privilege execution.
• Create reusable APIs, SDKs, templates and documentation to help product teams build AI‑assisted applications responsibly.
• Assess open‑weight models and European inference providers, establishing observability for cost, latency, quality, reliability and policy compliance.
• Collaborate with product, security, cloud and business teams to support users, resolve issues and shape the platform roadmap.

Required profile

• Several years of experience building and operating production‑grade backend, platform or infrastructure systems.
• Strong sense of operational responsibility from idea through production.
• Genuine interest in AI models, their governance and evaluation.
• Fluent English; German is a plus but not required.
