ATLAS Detector Installation Technician – Junior Mechanical

About the role
The EP-ATL-PO section at CERN is responsible for the upgrade and maintenance of the ATLAS detector during Long Shutdown 3. As a Junior Mechanical Technician you will assist experienced engineers in the mechanical installation, integration and movement of detector components, gaining hands‑on experience in a world‑leading experimental physics environment.
Key responsibilities
- Participate in large‑scale detector movements and installation of access platforms in the experimental cavern.
- Support sub‑detector installation activities, including handling, transport and precise positioning using lifting and alignment techniques.
- Prepare work areas, set up tooling and provide logistical support for detector interventions.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, perform basic dimensional checks and report progress to supervising engineers.
- Manufacture simple parts and tooling using conventional machining (drilling, milling, turning) when required.
Required profile
- Initial hands‑on experience in mechanical assembly, fitting or maintenance.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, blueprints and 2D/3D CAD models.
- Basic metrology skills (calipers, gauges, dimensional inspection tools).
- Awareness of occupational health and safety principles in workshop and industrial settings.
- National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State with up to two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
