About the role

Join Lonza’s drug product branch in Basel, Switzerland as an Automation Engineer, contributing to cutting‑edge automated solutions for pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare drug product samples using an automated liquid handler and maintain automation systems.
• Design, develop, program, and implement automated solutions on digital platforms such as Microsoft 365.
• Act as a subject‑matter expert in automation and digitalisation, leading related workstreams.
• Participate in root‑cause analysis for automation issues and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure all automation activities comply with GxP regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
• Collaborate with automation scientists and stakeholders to propose and deploy automated solutions.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Sciences, Life Sciences or a related field.
• Proficient programming skills in Python and other automation‑relevant languages.
• Hands‑on experience with state‑of‑the‑art liquid handlers (e.g., Hamilton Vantage/STAR, Tecan Fluent/Evo).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork.
• Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and troubleshooting abilities.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken); additional languages are a plus.
