Automation Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an Automation Engineer to design, program, test and commission industrial automation systems in highly regulated environments such as GMP, GAMP 5 and 21 CFR Part 11. The role involves close collaboration with production, maintenance and validation teams to ensure reliable and compliant automation solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Program, configure and modify PLC systems (Siemens, Rockwell/Allen‑Bradley; optional Schneider, Beckhoff, Codesys).
• Develop, implement and maintain SCADA/HMI platforms (WinCC TIA Portal, WinCC OA, FactoryTalk View, Ignition or equivalents).
• Draft and review functional and technical documentation (URS, FDS, SDS, FAT/SAT/IQ/OQ protocols).
• Participate in FAT, SAT, commissioning and qualification phases (IQ/OQ/PQ).
• Provide Level 2/3 technical support to production and maintenance.
• Ensure strict compliance with GMP, GAMP 5, data‑integrity (ALCOA+) and OT cybersecurity requirements.
• Monitor technological developments in PLC, SCADA and IIoT for the pharmaceutical sector.

Required profile

• Degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Industrial IT (HES/EPF or equivalent).
• 3–8 years of PLC/SCADA programming experience in an industrial setting, preferably pharmaceutical or biotechnology.
• Strong hands‑on expertise with Siemens or Rockwell automation platforms.
• Good understanding of GMP/GAMP 5 practices and equipment qualification processes.
• Professional English (spoken and written); German is a plus.
• Team‑oriented, rigorous, autonomous and comfortable in multidisciplinary projects.
