Backend Software Engineer (Java)

About the role

Join Worldline’s development office in Biel/Bienne to work on the backbone of payment services, processing over 20 million cashless transactions daily. You will help design, build, test, and maintain new features for cashless payments using state‑of‑the‑art technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain high‑quality Java backend services in an Agile, DevOps, cross‑functional squad distributed across Switzerland and Italy.
• Own deployment, monitoring, and 3rd‑level incident response, including on‑call duties.
• Improve performance, scalability, reliability and monitoring of applications processing millions of transactions.
• Collaborate with product owners and business engineers to translate client needs into technical solutions.

Required profile

• Higher education in information technology (university degree or equivalent).
• Strong programming proficiency in Jakarta EE and fluency with relational databases.
• Ability to work under pressure, e.g., during major outages.
• Fluent in English; French, German or Italian is a plus.
