Construction Project Engineer – Civil Engineering

About the role

As a Construction Project Engineer in the Site and Civil Engineering Department (Project Portfolio Management Group) at CERN, you will support the delivery of complex construction projects. Reporting to a CERN Project Manager, you will coordinate site activities, manage internal and external interfaces, and ensure execution meets technical, schedule, budget and safety objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise construction works and verify compliance with contractual drawings and specifications together with external consultants.
• Implement and monitor safety measures on worksites, identify potential issues and manage defect remediation.
• Participate in testing, commissioning and hand‑over activities to ensure smooth project closure.
• Contribute to design, coordination and procurement phases, monitoring consultants’ deliverables during construction.
• Coordinate on‑site interfaces between contractors and CERN specialised services, organise the worksite according to the construction schedule.
• Track progress, quality and budget of works in close collaboration with the Project Manager.

Required profile

• Experience in civil‑engineering design or on‑site construction work.
• Proven coordination experience in multi‑disciplinary projects.
• Eligibility: national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State, with a Master’s (2‑6 years post‑graduation experience) or PhD (≤3 years experience) and no prior CERN fellow/graduate contract.
• Fluent in English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the MS Office suite, including MS Project.
• Familiarity with construction project‑management tools and methodologies.
• Quality‑control techniques and report‑writing experience.
