Consultant for Recovery Readiness

About the role

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is seeking a consultant to support its Recovery Readiness Unit. The role focuses on producing good‑practice materials, developing an online showcase, and contributing to research that enhances countries' ability to build back better after disasters.

Key responsibilities

• Produce written outputs such as background papers, analytical notes, and sections of reports.
• Refine and draft content for recovery‑readiness capacity‑development packages across governance, finance, capacity, and data domains.
• Conduct desk reviews, comparative analyses, and identify good practices to inform package design.
• Support piloting and testing of capacity‑development packages at country and regional levels, including adapting training material and delivering sessions.
• Organise consultations, workshops, and technical sessions, preparing agendas, background documents, and outcome reports.
• Contribute to knowledge products linking recovery readiness with climate adaptation and financing mechanisms.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in disaster risk management, development, public finance, public policy, urban planning, or a related field (or equivalent first‑level degree with 2 years experience).
• Minimum 2 years of experience in post‑disaster recovery, development, finance, or disaster risk management.
• Experience in training, capacity building, or communications is desirable.
• Research experience on disaster risk reduction topics is a plus.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
