Design & Simulation Engineer

About the role

Harmattan AI is seeking a senior Mechanical Engineer to lead end‑to‑end design, simulation and validation of specialised mechanical and electromechanical structures for autonomous defence systems.

Key responsibilities

• Run non‑linear explicit finite element simulations to predict structural integrity, dynamic impact and high‑velocity behaviour.
• Create and maintain complex CAD models, structural housings and detailed technical drawings for production release.
• Write R&D test specifications, set up lab and range tests, and analyse sensor data to validate simulations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on payload optimisation, spatial layout and mechanical integration.
• Conduct system‑level hazard analyses and safety evaluations for critical mechanisms.
• Document hardware performance guidelines, support first‑production validation and provide field technical support.

Required profile

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics or a related discipline.
• Hands‑on experience with non‑linear explicit finite element analysis for high‑velocity impact and material failure.
• Practical experience in physical prototype testing, environmental chambers or dynamic test tracks.
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to deliver hardware on schedule.

• CAD modelling and mechanical drafting (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA)
• Manufacturing processes: CNC machining, additive manufacturing, injection molding
• Data acquisition and sensor analysis for test validation
