Director – Environment, Climate Change, One Health & Migration

About the role

The Director will lead the Department of Environment, Climate Change, One Health and Migration (ECO) within the Division of Health Promotion, Disease Prevention and Care. This senior position shapes global health policies that address unhealthy environments, climate impacts, and migration‑related health challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Define and operationalise a clear departmental vision aligned with organisational strategy, ensuring measurable results.
• Provide scientific, technical and policy expertise to Member States and stakeholders for the development, implementation and monitoring of national and global programmes.
• Lead and manage a diverse workforce and financial resources to achieve departmental objectives.
• Facilitate collaboration across headquarters, regional and country offices, integrating their perspectives into programme design.
• Offer senior‑level technical advice to senior WHO leadership, positioning the department as a global leader.
• Integrate emerging technological and scientific advances to ensure timely, equitable information for Member States.
• Oversee the creation of evidence‑based policies, strategies and WHO guidelines, and manage monitoring, evaluation and reporting processes.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in public health, environmental health, climate change or related fields.
• Proven leadership of large, multidisciplinary teams and management of substantial budgets.
• Strong track record of influencing policy at national and international levels.
• Ability to foster cross‑departmental and multi‑level collaboration.
• Expertise in translating scientific evidence into actionable health policies.
