Director Operational Excellence & PMO – Microbial Operations

About the role

This senior position is based at Lonza's Visp manufacturing site in Switzerland and is responsible for driving operational excellence and strategic project delivery across the Microbial Operations network. The role requires close, on‑site collaboration to ensure medicines are manufactured to the highest quality and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the Operational Excellence strategy for Microbial Operations, improving performance and competitiveness.
• Lead Lean Six Sigma continuous‑improvement initiatives, delivering measurable business impact across assets.
• Establish and run a robust PMO framework with strong governance, prioritisation, and execution of strategic initiatives.
• Oversee the full project portfolio, managing scope, milestones, risks, resources and benefits realization.
• Partner with senior leadership to align cross‑functional priorities and drive decision‑making.
• Drive governance and planning processes, including OE roadmaps, business reviews and continuity planning.
• Build organisational capability by coaching leaders and embedding a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.

Required profile

• Significant experience in manufacturing operations, operational excellence or project/program management in a complex environment.
• Strong expertise in Lean Six Sigma methodologies; Black Belt certification preferred.
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional initiatives and influence without formal authority.
• Excellent project portfolio management and governance capabilities.
• Advanced communication and stakeholder‑management skills at senior leadership level.
• Degree in engineering, life sciences or a related field; postgraduate qualification preferred.
