Electronics Technician – Quench Detection System

About the role

Join CERN as an Electronics Technician to support the upgrade of the quench detection system (QDS) used in the Large Hadron Collider. During the upcoming long shutdown you will work alongside engineers, handling the full lifecycle from removal of legacy equipment to building, testing and commissioning next‑generation electronics.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and consolidate QDS electronics installed in the LHC tunnel.
• Test and commission QDS systems during the shutdown period.
• Support operation and routine maintenance of functional test systems for QDS electronics.

Required profile

• Experience (up to two years) in analog and digital electronics, including assembly of crates and circuit boards.
• Hands‑on experience with testing, measurement and routine maintenance of electronic systems using standard laboratory instrumentation.
• Knowledge of cable assembly, connectorisation and basic EMC good practices.
• Good teamwork skills, willingness to learn and basic knowledge of Python (asset).
• Fluent in English or French with a commitment to learn the other language.
• Eligibility: national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State, secondary education diploma, no previous CERN contract.
