Electronics Technician – Quench Detection System Upgrade

About the role

Join CERN as an Electronics Technician and help upgrade the cutting‑edge quench detection system used in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). During the upcoming major shutdown you will work side‑by‑side with engineers, participating in the full lifecycle from removing legacy equipment to building, testing and commissioning next‑generation electronics.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and consolidate quench detection system (QDS) electronics in the LHC tunnel.
• Test and commission QDS systems on‑site.
• Support operation and maintenance of functional test systems for QDS electronics.

Required profile

• Experience in analog and digital electronics, including assembly of electronic crates and circuit boards.
• Hands‑on experience with basic testing, operation and routine maintenance of electronic systems.
• Proficiency with laboratory instrumentation for measuring analog and digital circuits.
• Experience in cable assembly, connectorisation and basic EMC good practices.
• Good knowledge of English or French and willingness to learn the other language.
• Eligibility: national of a CERN Member or Associate State, maximum two years professional experience since graduation, secondary education diploma, no prior CERN fellow or graduate contract.
