Faculty Position in Theory and Simulation of Materials

About the role

The School of Engineering at EPFL and the Institute of Materials are seeking a Tenure Track Assistant Professor to lead research in theory and simulation of materials, starting in late 2027 or early 2028.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead an independent, competitive research program in theoretical and computational materials science.
• Supervise PhD students and collaborate with researchers across EPFL.
• Contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching, including STI education programs.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant field by the start date.
• Strong publication record and ability to secure research funding.
• Commitment to excellence in teaching and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Required skills

• Electronic‑structure theory and method development.
• Large‑scale and multiscale computational simulations.
• Data‑driven and machine‑learning approaches for materials discovery.
