Field System Engineer (X-ray Detectors)

About the role

DECTRIS develops and produces X-ray and electron detectors used worldwide in large-scale research facilities and industry. Its Support & Commissioning team acts as the interface between its products and customers at synchrotrons, laboratories and in industry, solving software and hardware problems, supporting customers in using the detectors, training users and partners, and feeding back product feedback to the company. The Field System Engineer provides advanced technical support for DECTRIS detector systems, both remotely and on site.

Key responsibilities

• Provide advanced technical support for DECTRIS detector systems, remotely and on site
• Analyze, debug and fix complex software and hardware issues
• Commission detector systems and provide integration support
• Perform diagnostics and repairs at DECTRIS and at customer sites
• Develop scripts, tools and procedures to improve customer support
• Communicate technical topics clearly to non-experts and experts alike
• Work closely with R&D, product management, applications and sales
• Travel internationally up to 20%

Required profile

• Bachelor, Master or PhD degree in engineering, computer or natural sciences, or equivalent years of experience in industry
• Ability to train customers by explaining complex systems in understandable terms
• Hands-on, solution-oriented approach, comfortable with unfamiliar systems
• Logical and analytical problem solver who can improvise
• Fast learner, reliable team player who can work independently, stress-resistant and flexible in diverse customer environments
• Fluent English; German or Chinese is a plus
• Driving licence (B)

Required skills

• Programming/scripting, mainly Python
• Comfortable using Linux
• Working with tools, lab equipment and real hardware
