Global Head of MES & Automation

About the role

Lonza is seeking a Global Head of MES & Automation to lead the strategy, implementation and continuous improvement of Manufacturing Execution Systems across its worldwide network. The role will collaborate with Platform Operations, IT, local automation teams and delivery leads to adopt electronic batch records and maximize the value of the IT/OT architecture.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, drive and audit the global MES strategy and ensure its implementation across all sites.
• Lead selection, design, deployment and roll‑out of global standards for infrastructure, asset and incident management.
• Ensure MES functionality and cGMP compliance in partnership with site leadership, Global Quality Assurance and IT.
• Mentor and develop a team of MES experts and manage the Group Ops MES team, governance and portfolio.
• Oversee workforce planning, vendor management, budgeting, change management and performance management.
• Maintain and execute the MES roadmap, supporting electronic batch recording and master batch records.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in pharmaceutical/biotech operations with deep knowledge of GxP regulations (e.g., 21 CFR Part 11).
• Proven leadership, coaching and stakeholder management skills in a global matrix environment.
• Strong analytical and strategic mindset with ability to drive change initiatives.
• Business‑fluent in English and German.
