Hardware Design Engineer – PCB Development

About the role

Thales DIS Switzerland AG is looking for a Hardware Design Engineer to join its training and simulation team in Bern. You will be responsible for turning hardware concepts into production‑ready products, supporting both live and virtual training systems for defence and security customers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop hardware from schematic and layout design through to series production readiness.
• Create and maintain technical documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
• Assemble, commission and test prototypes and pilot series, including measurements and reporting.
• Define and implement test and validation specifications for printed circuit boards (PCBs).
• Support certification, testing and supplier acceptance processes.
• Maintain production data in SAP ERP.
• Promote knowledge sharing and cross‑functional collaboration.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
• Experience in hardware development and familiarity with software development concepts.
• Knowledge of 16‑bit or 32‑bit processors and common interfaces such as SPI, I²C, USB and UART.
• Strong teamwork, collaboration and communication skills.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken); German and French are a plus.

Required skills

• Altium Designer or similar PCB design tools.
• PCB design and layout.
• Understanding of SPI, I²C, USB, UART interfaces.
• Experience with 16‑bit/32‑bit processors.
• Use of SAP ERP for production data management.
