Head of Software Engineering

About the role

Adaptyv is creating an automated lab that lets AI agents run biology experiments. As Head of Software Engineering you will act as a player‑coach, still writing code while shaping the engineering roadmap, team structure, and technical direction.

Key responsibilities

• Own the engineering roadmap: decide what to build, defer or kill and align it with company strategy.
• Set technical direction and architecture across frontend, backend, data pipelines, and lab‑hardware integration.
• Ship high‑leverage code yourself and review contributions to keep the team fast and reliable.
• Hire, grow, and maintain a high‑performance engineering team that delivers critical lab software.
• Embed AI‑assisted development practices to accelerate delivery.

Required profile

• Several years of production software delivery and a desire to stay hands‑on while leading.
• Proven experience building and scaling engineering teams in fast‑growth environments.
• Track record of owning or shaping an engineering roadmap with pragmatic trade‑offs.
• Broad technical breadth across frontend, backend, data, and infrastructure.
• Comfort with AI‑native development tools and a genuine interest in biology.
