Human Rights Internship – Economic, Social & Cultural Rights

About the role

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is seeking interns to support the Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR) Section in Geneva. Interns will assist the team in research, policy development, advocacy support and logistical tasks, reporting to a designated Human Rights Officer.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research and analysis to develop OHCHR policy positions on economic, social and cultural rights.
• Support the High Commissioner’s advocacy on ESCR and contribute to the preparation of reports for UN human‑rights mechanisms.
• Assist in fulfilling General Assembly and Human Rights Council mandates related to ESCR.
• Provide advice and technical support to OHCHR country and regional offices as needed.
• Help strengthen partnerships with UN entities, cities, national human‑rights institutions and civil‑society organisations.
• Provide organizational and logistical assistance to the ESCR Section and its collaborative activities.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in, or having completed, a graduate programme, or in the final academic year of a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
• Fluency in English.
• Ability to obtain the necessary visa and work authorization if not a Swiss resident.
