Human Rights Internship – Media Outreach

About the role

The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights is offering a short‑term, unpaid internship in its Media Outreach & Spokesperson's Office (MOSO) in Geneva. The intern will support the Section’s work in communicating human‑rights issues to the media and the public, under the guidance of the Deputy Spokesperson or Public Information Officer.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor media and social media, compile daily clippings on the Office’s activities, Treaty Bodies and Special Rapporteurs.
• Assist in preparing briefing materials, press releases and supporting documents for press conferences and bi‑weekly briefings.
• Help organise and run events, including logistics and on‑site support.
• Research and produce audio‑visual and written content for various media platforms.
• Support the drafting of speech material and other public information products as requested.

Required profile

• Enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s programme or in a graduate programme (Master’s or higher), preferably in law, communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, political science or related fields.
• Strong interest in United Nations work and commitment to the UN Charter and human‑rights principles.
• Ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Fluency in English is required; knowledge of French is an asset, and additional UN official languages are a plus.
