Internship: Digital & OE Support for Performance Excellence Delivery

About the role

Roche's Performance Excellence Delivery (PED) team in Pharma Technical drives operational performance improvements across commercial manufacturing and operations departments such as Quality Control, Drug Substance and Drug Product Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Development. The internship supports the team at the intersection of Operational Excellence (OE) and Digital/AI capabilities, acting as a bridge between operational business teams and IT/digital functions. It is a 6-month, full-time (40 hours per week) position in Basel, starting as early as 1 February 2027.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare phase: extract and consolidate data from systems such as Hermes, s-LIMS, Snowflake and SAP, clean and validate datasets, and analyse operational metrics such as lead times, cycle times, throughput and batch volumes.
• Diagnose and design phase: map current-state operational and digital workflows through shopfloor observation and stakeholder interviews, identify bottlenecks and gaps, and scope digital and automation use cases.
• Implementation phase: translate user needs and requirements into technical input for developers, help build and test lightweight digital solutions and mockups with low-code tools such as AppSheet, assist in deploying dashboards, set up data products and train end users.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor's or Master's programme in Data/Computer Science, Engineering, Biotechnology, Life Sciences or a related field.
• Interest in Lean principles, process mapping and operational problem solving in the pharmaceutical industry.
• Fluent English; German is an advantage.
• Willingness to travel in the DACH region.
• Non-EU/EFTA citizens must provide a university certificate stating that the internship is mandatory.

Required skills

• Basic hands-on coding, for example Python or JavaScript, with VS Code and GitHub.
• AI-assisted development (e.g. Claude Code) and low-code platforms (e.g. AppSheet).
• Data visualisation and prototyping of simple digital tools and operational mockups.
