Internship - Red Teaming of LLM and Agent-Based Applications

About the role

D ONE helps companies make sense of their data and generate value. This internship in Zurich is a fixed-term contract of typically 3 months at 80-100%, open to students (Bachelor, Master or PhD level). You will work independently on a topic in AI security and safety testing, probing generative AI systems for weaknesses and turning your findings into reusable tooling and guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Review the current landscape of attacks and defences for LLM and agent-based applications.
• Design and implement adversarial test cases and automate their execution in Python.
• Assess systems against recognised security and governance frameworks.
• Analyse findings, judge their severity and propose mitigations.
• Document your work and present it to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Required profile

• Current enrolment in a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD programme in Computer Science, Data Science, Computational Linguistics, Engineering, Mathematics or a comparable field.
• Interest in at least one industry domain and curiosity about how data creates value in it.
• Pragmatic, results-oriented attitude and excellent English communication; German is a strong plus.
• Preferred: familiarity with LLM attack classes (prompt injection, jailbreaks, exfiltration, insecure output handling, excessive agency, tool misuse), awareness of the OWASP Top 10 for LLM Applications, the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and the EU AI Act, and exposure to red teaming tools such as Garak, PyRIT or promptfoo.

Required skills

• Experience with large data sets and databases.
• Knowledge of relevant technologies and programming languages (e.g. Python, SQL, Git, Spark, cloud platforms).
• Preferred: ability to automate attack generation and scoring, and knowledge of defensive measures such as guardrails, sandboxing and content filtering.
