Junior Manufacturing Engineer – Design & Process Transfer

About the role

We are looking for a Junior Manufacturing Engineer to support design and manufacturing transfers, internal projects, and process changes at Smith+Nephew Manufacturing AG. The role involves collaborating with development, quality, procurement, regulatory, finance, suppliers and other stakeholders to ensure timely, cost‑effective, and compliant delivery of advanced medical devices.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design/manufacturing transfers, internal projects and manufacturing changes within defined time, quality and cost boundaries.
• Plan and control project execution, including scheduling, budgeting, progress tracking and reporting.
• Act as subject‑matter expert for manufacturing processes, developing robust and compliant solutions.
• Perform and lead process risk assessments, process characterization and capability studies.
• Provide technical support for manufacturing, quality and supplier issues.
• Create and maintain compliant technical documentation (Design Dossier, DHF, DMR, MBOMs in Windchill PLM).
• Ensure adherence to quality, health, safety and environmental policies and report deviations.
• Support procurement of new equipment and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Engineering degree, HF or Technician grade with limited or no prior experience.
• Knowledge of quality control, risk mitigation and statistical process control techniques.
• Analytical and problem‑solving skills with ability to develop long‑term solutions.
• Familiarity with Lean management tools.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
