Lab Scientist, Microscopy

About the role

Roche's 360 Labs chapter, part of the Strategy, Portfolio & Operations (SPO) function within its Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED) organisation, is seeking an experienced, collaborative and customer-centric senior scientist for its Microscopy Technology Platform. The role supports early drug discovery programmes by providing access to and training in advanced optical microscopy, and works in a matrix team with specialists from different therapeutic areas.

Key responsibilities

• Train platform users in the proper use of optical microscope instrumentation and fluorescence-based microscopy approaches.
• Support users in planning, developing, running and validating routine and custom fluorescence microscopy workflows, and present findings to stakeholders.
• Maintain high-quality FAIR research data through regular quality control and troubleshooting of instruments and workflows.
• Stay current with emerging technologies in advanced optical microscopy by following the scientific literature.

Required profile

• MSc or PhD in biology, chemistry or physics, with 5+ years of experience for an MSc or 3+ years for a PhD, in fluorescence-based optical microscopy in academia or industry.
• Proven ability to collaborate across matrix teams such as molecular biologists, microscopists, research histopathologists and image analysis experts, and to educate colleagues on instruments and workflows.
• Excellent English fluency and strong communication skills.

Required skills

• Widefield and confocal microscopy (laser-scanning and live-cell spinning disk).
• Multiphoton and label-free imaging.
• Super-resolution imaging, fluorescence lifetime imaging and feedback microscopy workflows are highly desired.
• Design and execution of optical microscopy assays on 2D and 3D samples, including cell and organoid cultures and fixed tissue.
