Lead Chemist – Small Molecule DSP & Preparative Chromatography

About the role

Lonza is looking for an experienced Chemist / Chemical Engineer to lead downstream processing (DSP) for small molecules, with a focus on preparative chromatography. Based in Visp, Switzerland, you will drive continuous improvement of DSP technologies across development and manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support DSP process development projects, including planning, supervision, and evaluation of laboratory activities.
• Transfer DSP manufacturing processes into GMP production facilities and provide technical expertise during manufacturing campaigns.
• Drive continuous improvement and innovation in DSP technologies in collaboration with Manufacturing, QA, Engineering and other cross‑functional teams.
• Define and support investment strategies for DSP equipment, leading large‑scale CAPEX and technology implementation projects.

Required profile

• PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related scientific discipline.
• Extensive expertise in downstream processing within the biopharmaceutical or chemical industry.
• Proven experience with preparative HPLC and chromatographic purification processes.
• Strong background in process development, scale‑up, technology transfer and GMP environments.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and leadership skills; fluent English (German a plus).
