Legal Officer – International Trade Centre

About the role

The Legal Office within the Office of the Executive Director safeguards the International Trade Centre’s legal interests and ensures that all activities comply with the organisation’s legal framework. Reporting to the Deputy Executive Director, the Legal Officer provides impartial advice, drafts complex legal instruments and supports the ITC in contractual and litigation matters.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and independently handle multi‑disciplinary legal matters covering international, public, private and administrative law.
• Provide legal advice on complex substantive and procedural issues related to procurement, contracts, administration and management.
• Conduct extensive legal research, prepare opinions, briefs, reports and correspondence.
• Draft, review and negotiate complex contracts, agreements and legal motions, developing new legal modalities as needed.
• Represent ITC in arbitral, tribunal or administrative proceedings and mentor junior legal officers.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in international law or a closely related field.
• Minimum seven years of relevant legal experience, including legal analysis, research and writing.
• Experience with United Nations, Member State or EU funding agreements and memoranda of understanding.
• Strong knowledge of international legal procedures, criminal law and staff regulations.
